Making your website easier to navigate
Creating a website is not as hard as it seems. You could easily put together a quality website if you use these tips to make it easier to navigate.
Organize the information on your site throughout different posts and pages. It might be a good idea to have entire pages dedicated to a certain products to present detailed descriptions, reviews, pictures and videos. You should also create a contact page to help people get in touch with you or find your store. The structure of your site will depend on your topic and your audience; take the time to organize your site as logically as possible and make changes later if necessary.
Add a few navigation tools to your site. You need a good menu to help your readers find the information they are looking for. A good menu should be placed on to of your page or on one side and contain links to the main pages of your site. In most cases, you will not find more than five or six links in a menu. These main pages function as categories for the content of your site; you can then create another menu or post links to additional content on your main pages. For instance, you could create a ‘shopping’ section on your main menu which takes your visitors to a complete listing of your products.
You should also add a search bar to your site. If you use a blog, this feature should be easy to add. If you wrote your website yourself, you should be able to rely on search bars provided by Google or other search engines or even create one yourself. Make sure the search bar is visible; add a short line of text to encourage your readers to look up the information they need. Learn to think like your audience; ask yourself what kind of keywords people who type in to find a specific piece of information and a product. Keep track of the most popular searches and make changes to your site so that the content your readers look up is easier to find.
You can make your site easier to navigate by providing your readers with links to more similar content. For each article you write, you should have up to three links within your text to other articles on related topics. Include these links in your content and use strong keywords instead of placing a list of suggested readings at the bottom of your articles – although this technique can work too depending on your audience. Archive your articles efficiently so that visitors can easily find what they are looking for. You could group your old articles into categories and update the links from one article to another to provide your readers with more content. Keep track of which links get the most clicks and repeat the same strategy to create more links in the future.
Keep your design and structure as simple as possible so that your readers can find the information they need quickly. Draw attention to the content that matters and is likely to influence readers into buying a product.
